APP (China) carbon reduction midfield battle( Step one )

SETP ONE: Production and manufacturing do "subtraction

Before the "dual carbon" goal was proposed, APP (China) has been committed to energy saving and carbon reduction on the production side, and clearly defined the goal of "reducing the carbon footprint by 30% by 2030" in the sustainable development road map.
In October 2020, in the first month after the “dual carbon” goal was clarified, APP (China) established an inter-departmental organization for “carbon emission control, carbon reduction, and efficiency improvement”, and related work became more orderly, standardized, and efficient Rhythm.
Energy-saving and emission reduction is a gradual process. The first thing to bear is to improve energy efficiency and raw material utilization through technological breakthroughs and process improvements. At present, a large amount of waste residue, waste liquid, and waste gas generated in the pulping and paper-making process of the APP (China) plant will be recycled and reused within the allowable range. For example, when trees are used as raw materials to enter the factory, they need to be cut into uniform and high-quality wood chips, while the remaining wood chips, bark, etc. will be crushed and burned in the boiler to generate electricity; the pulping process will produce a large amount of lignin and alkali. "Black liquor", after being processed by the alkali recovery furnace, can "turn waste into treasure" and realize steam generation and power generation. It is understood that only one "black liquor recovery project" can generate 4.081 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per day for Jinhai Pulp and Paper under the APP (China) plant, saving 3,268.67 tons of standard coal. Due to the recyclable nature of the paper industry, most of the paper products produced are effectively recycled. Compared with wood pulping, waste paper can save energy by 50%, save water resources by 35%, and reduce pollutant emissions by 50%.

Converting waste from the production process into biomass energy is also further optimizing the energy structure of the factory and reducing the possibility of carbon emissions at the source. Data show that in 2019, "Pulping Black Liquor" accounted for 23.40% of APP (China) energy structure, and the general solid waste recycling rate reached 32.25%.
In addition, the proportion of green energy in APP's energy composition has also continued to increase. Since it was announced in 2014 to make full use of the factory’s existing plants to carry out rooftop photovoltaic power generation projects, APP (China) has built a rooftop photovoltaic system of 80MW, generating 90 million kWh of electricity annually, saving 28,000 tons of standard coal each year and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 76,000 tons.

At present, APP (China) is ahead of its domestic counterparts in terms of economies of scale and integration of forestry, pulp, and paper, and has reached the international advanced level. Next, we will promote energy conservation and carbon reduction on the production side from four perspectives through technology research and development, process optimization, and process innovation. To continue the leading advantage, it is necessary to ensure "high specifications" from beginning to end—for existing projects, eliminating low-energy-efficiency equipment and production lines, adding new high-efficiency energy-saving systems; newly-built projects must use the current lowest energy consumption advanced equipment, Primary energy replaces secondary energy, multi-stage and multi-stage waste heat is fully recovered, etc., so that it will stand at a high starting point for energy saving and consumption reduction as soon as it is put into production.
