Effect of Paper Properties on Inkjet Printing

Paper is a commonly used printing material in the inkjet printing process, and its quality performance directly affects the quality of inkjet printing. Choosing the right paper will help improve product quality, save production costs, and improve production efficiency. The properties of paper include physical properties, optical properties, and mechanical properties. The main printing properties of paper that affect printing color reproduction are ink absorption, smoothness, whiteness, and gloss.

Paper whiteness is a technical index that expresses the ability of the surface of paper to reflect light after being irradiated by light, also known as the brightness of paper. The higher the whiteness of the paper, the greater the contrast of the color output, which can increase the vividness of the color, so the whiteness of the paper also participates in the color rendering during output. The size relationship in terms of whiteness: Coated paper, high-gloss photo paper, offset paper, copy paper, and newsprint decrease one by one. The higher the whiteness of the paper, the larger the printing color gamut, that is, the larger the printing color range, and the better the printing performance. It can well reflect the tone level of the printed matter and make the color of the output product more vivid.

Paper smoothness refers to the flatness of the paper surface, and the relationship between paper smoothness: photo paper, coated paper, offset paper, copy paper, and newsprint gradually decrease. The smoothness of the paper has a great influence on the paper’s acceptance of ink and its color reproduction. The higher the smoothness, the higher the efficiency of ink transfer, and the ink can be more evenly and widely distributed in each inking area, which can make the color more beautiful.

The glossiness of paper refers to the closeness of specular reflection ability to complete specular reflection ability. The relationship between paper glossiness: high-gloss photo paper, coated paper, offset paper, copy paper, and newsprint decrease in turn. The higher the gloss of the paper, the better the ink color reproduction and the higher the output quality.

Absorptivity of paper refers to the ability of paper to absorb the binder in the ink and its solvent, usually expressed as a percentage. The high-low relationship in terms of absorbency: Art paper, high-gloss photo paper, newsprint, offset paper, and copy paper gradually decrease. Good absorbency and large printing color gamut.
