Is greaseproof paper the same as baking paper?
Many people may confuse greaseproof paper and Baking Paper. Yes, although they look very similar, but they are completely different.
What is greaseproof paper?
Greaseproof paperiS Paper that is impermeable to oil or grease, and is normally used in cooking or food packaging. It is usually produced by refining the paper stock and thus creating a sheet with very low porosity. This is then passed between hard pressure rollers to further increase the density, creating a paper called glassine. The glassine is treated with starches, alginates or carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) in a size press to fill pores or treat the paper chemically to make it fat repellent. Basis weights are usually 30–50 g/㎡.
What is baking paper?
Baking paper, also called silicone oil paper, parchment paper. It has has a thin silicone coating to prevent your baking sticking to oven trays and cake tins without having to grease with butter or oil. Generally it is heat-resistant up to 220°C fan-forced (425°F fan-forced).
The difference between greaseproof paper and baking paper
The biggest difference between them is high temperature tolerance.
Greaseproof paper can only withstand temperatures up to 80 ℃, but baking paper can withstand higher heats up to 220°C.
The usage of greaseproof paper and baking paper
You can use greaseproof paper to wrapping foods, such as sandwiches, hamburgers, French fries, fried chicken, etc.
As for baking paper, you can use it to baking cookies, grilling, etc.
