Commercial rotary printing press is a kind of web offset printing press, which is a web multi-color printing press capable of printing color fine prints above 175 lines/inch. Among them, the drying unit is the core technology unit for commercial rotary printing machines to achieve high-speed printing, and the drying methods mainly include ultraviolet drying and thermal drying.

Commercial web presses can achieve their goals of efficient and high-quality printing when printing most types of paper, but coated paper printing is its shortcoming. First, because the coated paper has a smooth surface and is not easy to get ink if the commercial web press is dry and the unit temperature is set low, the printing ink layer will not be well inked on the paper, and the printed product is prone to scratches and deink. Second, because the surface of the art paper is coated, if the drying unit temperature of the commercial rotary printing press is set high, the surface coating of the coated paper is easy to deform, blister and fall off. This is a contradiction.

At the highest printing speed (36,000 prints/hour) of a commercial rotary press, after the printed product passes through the oven, the minimum temperature for complete inking is 110°C for the paper surface and 160-180°C for the oven temperature. The significance of obtaining this data is that when the printing speed is lower than the maximum one and the oven length is constant, the coated paper prints can be well inked and dried.

The design speed, oven temperature and oven length of different commercial rotary printing machines are different. When measuring the drying temperature of coated paper at a certain printing speed, can also test at any printing speed, after obtaining the temperature parameters, match the printing speed lower than the test speed to carry out the test until the perfect printing effect is obtained.
