The trend of paper packaging replacing plastic packaging

Migration of mineral oil in packaging has been a problem for about 9 years. Research in Switzerland has shown that cartons such as coated recycled cardboard made from environmentally friendly recycled fiber may contain high levels of mineral oils derived from printing inks made from recycled fiber. If food comes into direct contact with these cartons, there may be an increased risk of mineral oil transfer from the carton to food, posing a health risk.

Therefore, some experts suggest that food packaging should use more cardboard made of virgin fiber, such as replacing renewable cardboard with yellow core white card. Therefore, many food processing enterprises began to use yellow core white card, for example, in cereal packaging such as oatmeal and cornflakes, food is directly in contact with cardboard, so the share of yellow core white card gradually increased.

FBB packaging

With the intensification of restrictions on plastic products around the world, FBB products such as yellow core white cardboard have become effective alternatives to plastic packaging. Cardboard is renewable, recyclable and, in some cases, even biodegradable and industrially compostable. Especially in Europe, the growing call to reduce plastic pollution in the ocean has boosted the market demand for FBB packaging.

In order to meet market demand, yellow core ivory board manufacturers have also continuously improved product characteristics and developed lighter cardboard products without reducing the strength of cardboard, thereby saving raw material costs and logistics costs. Export data also shows that North America has become a key export area for European yellow-core white cards. The hardness of yellow-core white cards is similar to that of North American white-core white cards. As the popularity of lightweight packaging materials increases, yellow-core white cards can replace white-core white cards to a certain extent, successfully meeting the growing demand for paper packaging in the North American market.
